What Is a Gang Sheet? Complete Guide

If you've seen the term "gang sheet" and wondered what it means, you're not alone. It's a simple concept that can save you significant money on DTF transfers. Here's everything you need to know.

What Is a Gang Sheet?

A gang sheet is a large sheet of DTF transfer film with multiple designs printed together on a single sheet. Think of it like a sticker sheet — many individual transfers arranged on one piece of film.

The term "gang" comes from print industry terminology meaning "grouped together." Gang printing = printing multiple items on one sheet to maximize efficiency.

You order the sheet, receive it as one piece, then cut apart the individual transfers before pressing them onto garments.

Gang Sheet Sizes

Our gang sheets are all 22" wide (the maximum width of our DTF printers). Length varies:

- 22" × 24" — Entry level, good for 4-8 transfers
-
22" × 48" — Popular choice, fits 8-16 transfers
-
22" × 72" — Great for medium orders, 12-24 transfers
-
22" × 96" — Maximum size, best value, 16-32+ transfers

The cost-per-square-inch decreases as sheet size increases, so larger sheets = better value per transfer.

Tips for First-Time Gang Sheet Users

1. Start with a 22"×48" sheet — it's the most popular size and gives you room without being overwhelming
2.
Use PNG files with transparent backgrounds — this ensures no white boxes around your designs
3.
Leave 0.25" gaps between transfers for clean cutting
4.
Use a rotary cutter instead of scissors for straight, clean cuts
5.
Print a test transfer first if you're unsure about a design — order one individual transfer before committing to a full gang sheet
6.
Save your gang sheet layout — you can reorder the same layout easily

Frequently Asked Questions

What does gang sheet mean?
A gang sheet is a large DTF transfer sheet with multiple designs grouped ("ganged") together. You receive one sheet, cut apart the individual transfers, and press them separately onto garments.
How much can I save with gang sheets vs individual transfers?
Typically 25-40% savings per transfer compared to ordering individually. Savings increase with larger sheets and smaller individual designs.
Can I put different designs on the same gang sheet?
Yes. Every design on the sheet can be completely different — different artwork, different sizes, different text. The sheet price is based on sheet size, not design count.
Do I need special tools to cut gang sheets?
Scissors work fine. A rotary cutter with a cutting mat gives cleaner, straighter cuts and is faster for large sheets. No special equipment needed.
