The 3 Golden Rules
1. Turn inside out before washing
2. Wash cold (or warm at most)
3. Tumble dry low (or hang dry)
That's it. Follow these three rules and your DTF prints will last years. The rest of this guide explains why and covers edge cases.
DTF transfers are rated for 50+ washes, but proper care can extend that to 100+. Follow these simple steps to keep your custom shirts looking fresh for years.

Temperature: Cold water (60-80°F) is ideal. Warm (up to 105°F) is acceptable. Never hot.
Cycle: Normal or gentle cycle
Detergent: Standard liquid detergent. Avoid powder detergent that can leave residue on the print.
Avoid: Bleach, fabric softener on the print area, and harsh stain removers directly on the transfer.
Always turn the garment inside out so the print faces inward. This reduces direct friction and abrasion during the wash cycle.
Best: Hang dry or lay flat to dry
Good: Tumble dry on low heat
Avoid: High heat tumble dry, direct sunlight for extended periods
High dryer heat can cause the TPU adhesive to soften, which may lead to cracking over time. Low heat is perfectly safe and the most convenient option for most people.
Never iron directly on a DTF transfer. The iron's heat can melt or distort the print.
If you need to iron the garment:
1. Turn it inside out
2. Place a cloth between the iron and the print area
3. Use medium heat
4. Don't apply heavy pressure on the printed area
Food/drink stains on the print: Blot gently with cold water and mild soap. Don't scrub aggressively.
Oil stains: Apply dish soap directly, let sit 10 minutes, then cold wash.
Avoid: Acetone, rubbing alcohol, and bleach directly on the transfer. These can dissolve the TPU adhesive layer.
Fold with the print on the outside (folding print-to-print can cause transfers to stick in humid conditions).
Store in a cool, dry place. Avoid hot attics and damp basements.
For long-term storage: Place a sheet of parchment paper over the print before folding to prevent any sticking.
